Get ready to hear some of Calgary’s best amateur pianists compete – The Honens Pro-Am is back at the Bella on Saturday, November 27!
The Honens Pro-Am is a friendly and fun piano competition which is open to accomplished amateur musicians who earn their living in ways other than performing music full-time. Each pianist performs a 15 to 20-minute recital and is evaluated by a panel of experts - Denise Ball (Former Executive Producer, CBC), Vincent Ho (pianist and composer), and Patricia Price (Managing Director, 8VA Music Consultancy).

“We are very excited to have these five stellar pianists compete for this year’s Pro-Am,” says Amanda Smith, Honens Director, Marketing and Communications. “We are grateful for the time they are giving to Honens, both in preparing their repertoire and in fundraising beforehand. The Pro-Am is one of our most fun events – and host, Jonathan Love never disappoints!”
In addition to the competition itself, the 2021 Pro-Am pianists are asked to raise $25,000. Held just six times over the past twenty years, Pro-Am has added more than $500,000 to Honens’ education and engagement programs. This event has grown to become a much anticipated event for both pianists and audiences alike.
Each Pro-Am pianist aims to raise $5,000. You can help your favourite musician by making a personal or corporate pledge, or by buying a ticket and cheering them on. The 2021 Pro-Am will take place on Saturday November 27, 2021, at 2 p.m. at the Bella Concert Hall at the Taylor Centre for the Performing Arts, Mount Royal University (4825 Mount Royal Gate SW, Calgary).
