An Evening of Young Virtuosity

Four young soloists take the stage with Calgary Phil

The 2025 RBC Foundation / Calgary Phil Concerto Concert returns for its ninth year, offering an inspiring evening of music that highlights the exceptional talents of young musicians. Taking place on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, at 7:30 p.m. at Eckhardt-Gramatté Hall, Rozsa Centre, University of Calgary, this special concert provides emerging soloists with the opportunity to perform alongside the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of conductor Edmond Agopian.

This annual concert, supported by the RBC Foundation, is a collaboration between the University of Calgary’s School of Creative and Performing Arts (SCPA) and the Mount Royal University Conservatory. Through this partnership, the concert nurtures and celebrates the next generation of classical musicians, offering them a professional stage to showcase their artistry while giving audiences a glimpse into the future of classical music.

This year’s lineup features four outstanding young soloists. Representing the University of Calgary’s SCPA, Kathy Pham (piano) will perform the first movement of Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 1 in F-sharp minor, Op. 1, while Isaac Willocks (violin) will take on the first movement of Brahms’ Violin Concerto in D major, Op. 77. From the Mount Royal University Conservatory, Chanan Ngo (violin) will perform the first movement of Sibelius’ Violin Concerto in D minor, Op. 47, and Takumi Rodgers (cello) will bring Dvořák’s Cello Concerto in B minor, Op. 104, B. 191 to life.

Audiences can expect an evening of technical brilliance, expressive depth, and captivating performances as these young artists take centre stage. Tickets are only $14 for adults and $11 for students and seniors, making it an affordable and rewarding way to support rising musical talent. Whether you are a classical music enthusiast or simply eager to experience the power of live orchestral performance, this concert is not to be missed.
